An unusual style of Zulu art that has been sketched onto a wooden backboard. The Zulu artist that handcrafted this African picture has taken a piece of Masonite wooden board and burnt the front canvas so to give the artist a black surface to work with. The Zulu artist then engraves the Zulu woman image onto the wood and removes the front layer of the burnt wood to reveal the clear light brown wood underneath.

This style of art has become unique to a small group of Zulu's. This beautiful Zulu carving shows a traditional Lesotho man with an African hat and wrapped in a blanket. The tribesman also smoking a pipe. This is a typical look of the Lesotho people and the artist has used exceptional skill to hand engrave the details into the wood.
