This Songye power figure is hand carved out of wood and has been carved in classic Songye style of cubist proportions and strong lines.

The Songye power figure originates from the Congo and has been carved by a member of the Songye tribe who are from West Africa and are also known for their Songye Masks.

This African figure has the wooden statue sitting on a stool with hands on knees. The facial feature of the Songye power figure is common as in all Songye figures. The face has typical protruding lips and pointed chin and geometric nose with the eyes sculpturally prominent.

Sculptures like this are known as Nkishi and often serve to divine the future, control one s destiny, and forestall evildoers or to work magic and most importantly to gain the attention of the spirit world
