The wooden colonial figure has a sailor dressed in blue and white with hat and hands in pockets.

Wooden colonial figures are carved with European likeness in mind depicting every day professions and never 100% perfect in the finishing touched. Wooden colonial figure are carved with small chips and scrapes to give the wooden colonial figure that aged feel.

Traditionally a Baoulé woman would have a carving made of her "spirit lover", an idealized vision of her future husband, who would have attributes such as strength an athleticism. After the colonial period, desired attributes changed along with society, so these carving would be depicted as businessmen for wealth or a doctor or priest for intelligence and caring
