African Hand Woven Zulu Basket Canister

A Zulu African hand woven basket pot that has been woven out of synthetic fibers in the traditional patterns of the Zulu tribal people. Zulu grass weave baskets have become such sort after items of design in homes around the word that designers have started using them in their designs and these type of Zulu grass weave baskets have reach such high prices.

These estyle of baskets are called canisters and are straight sided storage baskets, useful for trinkets and nick-nacks as they have a wide opening. These are a more recent adaptation of the Ukhamba, using the same materials and patterns.

We work closely with a group of Zulu women that live in the St Lucia area of KwaZulu Natal in South Africa. These traditional Zulu grass weavers use their talents as their only source of income. The Zulu baskets can be made to any size so please let us know if there is a certain size that you are looking for and we will arrange that for you.
