An unusual style of Zulu art that has been sketched onto a wooden backboard. The Zulu artist that handcrafted this African picture has taken a piece of Masonite wooden board and burnt the front canvas so to give the artist a black surface to work with. The Zulu artist then engraves the Zulu woman image onto the wood and removes the front layer of the burnt wood to reveal the clear light brown wood underneath.

This style of art has become unique to a small group of Zulu's. This beautiful Zulu carving shows a traditional Zulu woman with an African hat and traditional Zulu clothing smoking a pipe. The woman also adorns the Zulu e necklace. This is a typical look of the Zulu woman and the artist had used exceptional skill to hand engrave the details into the wood.
