An African grass woven plate hand woven by traditional Fulani women of Western Africa. The grass plate has been hand woven out of natural grasses in wonderful traditional Fulani patterns and natural grass colors. Every basket is made by hand, using indigenous raw material. It can take many hours work to produce one basket that will be unique in size, pattern shape and color.

Each basket is created in the home of the Fulani tribes woman and this is their means of income. The increasing availability of metalware and plastic utensils has caused a great decline in basketry all over Africa. These grass baskets adorn places in homes where most people display fine art. The techniques used to create Fulani woven baskets were first developed in West Africa In the late 17th century.

The Fulani people of West Africa are the largest nomadic group in the world.

Because of the nature of handcrafted woven plates each plate will be similar but not identical to the picture. There will be slight variances between each woven plate which adds to the uniqueness of the each individual African grass plate.
