This abstract hand carved soapstone carving is known by the local people of Zimbabwe as Shona art as it has been hand carved by members of the Shona tribe. The soapstone carving is of an African mother and child that are embracing each other with their arms wound around each other in an abstract form. The two African family members have faceless features and are set in the natural color of the stone which is known as soapstone.

Shona artist have become well known for this type of abstract stone carving and the family can bee found with up to 6 heads and in an embracing form. Abstract art has become very sort after in designer homes and Zimbabwe artist have become some of the best soapstone carvers in the world.
