Traditional African jewelry has always played an important part not only in traditional ceremonies but also in the daily lives of both male and female Africans. Beads are the most commonly used item with making African jewelry and can been dated back thousands of years.
Beads were first made from wood or stone and even seeds were used that would be dyed certain colours that were symbolic to that tribal group or clan. With beads animal bone was carved into shapes that would accompany a necklace or bracelet and these would also be painted or dyed certain colours . African jewelry has not only worn as a fashion accessory but also to show status of the wearer
