A Cone-shaped wood body drum with stave construction, goat skin heads, rope tuning. These drums are becoming more and more popular. They're light, portable, and sound BIG. When fitted with a strap, they can be played while moving or dancing. African Ashiko drum

The drum is still used today as a talking drum amongst the indigenous people who created it, just as it has been for centuries. The Ashiko drum is indigenous to the Yoruba peoples from the south-western region of what is now known as Nigeria, officially known as the Federal Republic of Nigeria since 1963. “Ashiko” is a Yoruba word that means “drum”; depending on the inflection of the native tonal language, it can also mean “freedom” or “the world of time”

Each Ashiko drum is an "original" work of art, individually hand carved, no two are exactly alike which adds to the value of each piece. The original nature of tribal art will be reflected by variances from the drum as shown, each piece of a specific style is similar, but not identical.
